Abstract

Field survey results indicate that the clean water sources used by residents in Tanjungpinang Timur District do not meet good quality. Residents in Tanjungpinang Timur District, especially in Batu IX Village, within the Mekar Baru Community Health Center, rely on dug wells for clean water because they are not connected to the PDAM pipeline. However, the physical condition of the dug well water is cloudy, yellowish, smelly, and some even taste bad during the long dry season. This clean-water condition is partly due to the presence of bauxite in the soil of the Riau Islands Province. Bauxite in the soil makes the groundwater in Tanjungpinang City very susceptible to contamination by heavy metals such as iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn), and the land in the residential area is swampy. Metal levels and poor physical conditions can be improved by using a water treatment system that reduces natural organic and inorganic materials present in the water. The removal of natural organic and inorganic materials through water treatment is essential for both cleaning groundwater and artificial decontamination. Dug well water in Tanjungpinang Timur District needs to be treated using water treatment techniques so that it becomes suitable for use as clean water. Water treatment techniques used to reduce natural organic and inorganic materials can use a simple filtration system with a chitosan medium from Gonggong Snail Shells, a marine product of the Riau Islands Province, and several natural materials available in the Riau Islands Province, such as coconut shell activated charcoal and sand. Seeing the high number of stunting cases and the still poor quality of clean water in Batu IX Village, Tanjungpinang Timur District, it is necessary to carry out community service with the title “Clean Water Filtration Innovation as a Sensitive Intervention in Stunting Prevention Efforts in Batu IX Village, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands”. 1. Building a clean water treatment system in one community house that experiences clean water problems and is a family assisted by the Mekar Baru Health Center regarding Maternal and Child Health and stunting. This activity was carried out at a community home recommended by the Mekar Baru Community Health Center, with Lavender Posyandu cadres and the Head of RT 002, RW 013 Kampul Sido Mulyo, Batu IX Village, Tanjungpinang City. The physical condition of the water has changed from cloudy to colorless, with an initial pH of 10, then 7.7, and a TDS of 589, then 220.
